The convening committee of BNP's Dhaka Metropolitan North is said to have been dissolved over allegations of unethical activities including extortion. Two and a half months ago, it was abolished.

On Saturday night, no reason was mentioned in the notification signed by the party's senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi over the dissolution of this committee.

However, several central leaders of BNP told Prothom Alo that various allegations of immoral activities including extortion and violation of party discipline have been received against the convener of the party's Dhaka Metropolitan North Committee Saiful Alam Nirav after the political change on August 5. As the allegations were proved, the top leadership of the party dissolved the Metropolitan North Committee itself.

Denying the allegations, Saiful Alam told Nirav Prothom Alo, 'My opponents are already trying to make me an extortionist. But there is no proof of where I extorted, whose house, shop I occupied'.

Replacing them, on July 7, two and a half months ago, Saiful Alam Nirav was made the convenor and Aminul Haque the member secretary of the partial convening committee of Dhaka Metropolitan North. Now that committee has been dissolved.

I respect the decision taken by the party regarding the dissolution of the committee,' Saiful Alam said. Aminul Haque, member secretary of the dissolved committee also told Prothom Alo that he respects the party's decision. He will continue to work for the team as before.

Four leaders expelled from Khulna

Four BNP leaders, who were in Khulna, have been expelled as specific allegations of involvement in party discipline and activities against the party's principles and norms have been proved.

Last Saturday night, Khulna Metropolitan BNP convenor Shafiqul Alam (Mana) and member secretary Shafiqul Alam (Tuhin) were quoted as saying in a press release to inform about expulsion of four people.

The leaders who were expelled include Sheikh Ainul Abedin Maruf, Khulna Nagar Ward No. 14 BNP member; Md. Sumon Howladar, Ward No. 9 BNP member; Habibur Rahman Vipul, Ward No. 16 BNP Joint Convenor; and Sheikh Sohail Basar, Ward No. 9 BNP Worker.

Earlier, on August 11, Khulna Metropolitan BNP issued a show cause notice to the 14 leaders of organs and affiliated organizations of Khulna Metropolitan BNP, on receiving specific allegations of moral turpitude. Four leaders in Khulna Nagar BNP and its affiliates were temporarily expelled on August 14 for being involved in activities against party discipline.
